There is a new rule at Saginaw (Michigan) City Council meetings. Men are required to take their hats off. Evidently, they are pretty serious about this new rule.
A Saginaw Valley State University student was TASERed after he refused to take off his baseball cap. Officer Doug Stacer of the Saginaw Police Department asked him to remove the hat. The man raised his voice and did not remove the hat.
As the officer grabbed the hat and pushed the man to the ground, the man tried to kick Saginaw Police Chief Gerald Cliff, who was coming to help out. At that point, Stacer TASERed the man, which sends 50,000 volts into a person's body. Cliff and Stacer got help from Saginaw County Sheriff Charles Brown hauling the man off to jail.

When the MAN tells you to take your hat off, should you do it? What if it were you?

I disagree "stung4eve..."
The police should be allowed to tell you he doesnt like your shoes and push you on the ground. When you fight back, you are fighting against a police state....not the police.

wow...scary..I am amazed...this cannot be a security issue can it? My boy's high school has the same rule and of a crowd of 100 or so during a meet the teachers day (I took off an hour from work and came straight there) the principal singled me out in the back row and said that hats were not allowed...i think he expected me to immediately take it off, but i just looked at him...if he taken the issue any further i would have walked out...this is a small town.
I searched for the Saginaw michigan police department site and sent them an e-mail saying how manly they were for bringing violence to this terrible hat wearer.
I'll agree that the man was tassered for resisting, but the police officer had no right to touch the man in the first place. If it was a security issue, like hiding a gun or something...he could have hidden a heavy pistol a lot easier in his pocket,,,it cannot be aa security issue...but whatever, it should have at least been explained bvefore the officer grabbed the man's possessions and person

He didn't get tasered for wearing a hat, he got tasered for attempting to assault an officer.
EDIT: "The police should be allowed to tell you he doesnt like your shoes and push you on the ground. When you fight back, you are fighting against a police state....not the police."
Whether you like the law or not (and it wasn't the police that passed the law, it was the city council), it's still the law. And this is the way things progressed:
Officer asks man to stop breaking the law.
Man starts yelling, which is creating a public disturbance, an arrestable offense.
Man starts to resist arrest, attempting to assaul an officer, and gets tasered.
The same thing could happen to any court room. Judges often ask people to remove their hats. If they refused, they can be arrested for contempt of court. Resist arrest, and you can get tasered.

No one gets Tased by the police for what they wear. Only for assaulting a police officer after refusing to obey a lawful order.
Hats can conceal weapons or display gang affiliations. It's also disrespctful to wear them in public buildings.
Please understand that the police did not Tase this person because he wore a hat. Try being the cop that has to enforce the rule and getting kicked for it.

no they should not be able to taser someone for raising their voice. A taser is meant for someone that has really broken a law and made a huge threat to their life or the police officer's life. they should not be allowed to taser someone for a baseball hat. that is outrageous

No wonder! The man was wearing a Los Angeles Dodgers hat! He should have had a Detroit Tigers cap on, he would be OK!

may be the sweaty hair coupled with the truth they're status close to ice even as giving the interview. Plus the hat in a good number of cases has a company's kind on it that the participant receives paid to advise.

Good, people need to obey the police.
Sounds like the Liberal Press has blown this one out of proportion.
