okay i have had this happen to me too many times to count !! no joke about it either. my sister and brother have had this happen also. you will be asleep and suddenly you wake up and try to move, speak, or just anything and guess what you cant do nothing! i sometimes can move my lips enough to mumble a few words, like move me or the person beside me's name. if i they move me it stops. i years ago heard some older african american women i worked with talking about this stuff. i asked them what it was called and they said it's either witches riding or rising over you. please tell me someone else in this world has heard or experienced this before. let me know and any info as to how and why this happens...thanks in advance, and i don't mind hearing any "weird" stories either cause to me it is ''weird" but who knows.

I've been wondering the same thing, i had an experience twice, where a witch climbed down a rope in the corner of my bedroom and while i was in bed, she sat on my chest. When she sat on my chest i was completely aware of what was going on. When she sat on my i felt that i couldnt breath, as though she was taking my air supply away, almost as though she was suckin the air out of me, at the same time i couldnt scream or move i was completley paralized. I never told any one about it, this happend about five years ago, two days ago i mentioned it to my mother, she claimes the "Exact" same thing happend to her, and gave me a perfect description of the whole event. From what she was wearing down to the rope incident. I asked my older sister, if she knew about a witch who sat on peoples chest, mind you ive never told her about my encounter. She responded to me with. "who the witch that sits on your chest, sucks the air out of you and you cant scream or move?" I think its very odd, that weve all had the same dream with the same effects.
So your not the only one who needs answers, if i come across some i will let you know.

IT HAPPENS TO ME ALOT!!! There is a term involving witches connected to the phenomenon, but it's just a silly term. Here's what I believe is going on: As you drift off to sleep, your body begins to relax and shut down. But your mind can become fully awake before your body has a chance to catch up. This is an incredibly scary feeling because now you're fully aware of everything and you know you're awake but your mind is totally 'disconnected' from your body and cannot get it to do anything! But it is like you say - the slightest nudge or bump will snap you out of it. I came to this conclusion after having the same experience in a different way once. I had fallen asleep with the radio on. I woke up to the strangest noise. I was hearing a foreign language coming from my radio! It sounded completely garbled and indecipherable! Then as I became more awake, the 'foreign language' audibly 'morphed' into plain english! I believe what had happened was that I had awakened from my sleep before the part of my brain which interprets sound did. It was a very strange experience not being able to understand english for a few seconds! I feel as if I've now heard what it must sound like to a foreigner - and I must say it sounds really weird!

What you are experiencing is a waking dream. It happens to me on occasion as well. You think you are awake but you are hinging between being awake and being asleep. Everything seems real but you suffer from sleep paralysis, you can't move, speak or even seem to breathe and some type of malevolent presence always seems to be in the room with you.

well i happen to be a witch. and where there are some dark arts that would cause an effect like this most do ot practice them.
you could be experiencing sleep paralysis. a medical problem that has been documented.
or you could actually have a negative or evil entity in your home.
my advise would be to look into the medical side of sleep paralysis and then have a priest of your chosen religion bless your home.

Mythologically, this sounds like more of a succubus or incubus than just a witch. Look them up in some sort of book of mythological beings.
Never had that happen to me, think I'm probably glad of that. I'm sure there's some sort of psychological/physical answer, but the other answer sounds cooler and weirder.

It has happened to me a lot. I actually was in this state and saw someone sitting on my bed looking over me. I would for sure research sleep paralysis and Astral Projection because this is the state where you can begin Astral projection.

i've had the out of body experience too while i was "asleep". for that check out astral projection.
but for the witches riding you thing check out "sleep paralysis"
different cultures have different explanations for it, but science calls it sleep paralysis.
i'm indian and we believe that happens if you sleep on your back. it never happened to me if i slept in any other position. we believe that spirits are holding you down. and sleeping on your back makes you more vulnerable to spirits.
my husband is jamaican and he had a real problem with it when he was growing up. but his family is christian so i dont think they believed it was spirits. but this only happened to him when he slept on his back.

When I was dating the man I married, he slept in the living room, me in the bedroom.
I saw him float over me in the bed. Even though he was not even in my room.
The next morning he was sitting in the kitchen. He said, just a few words...You'll never guess what happened to me last night...
I said, wait, and we each told it all to her! She was laughing. She just couldn't handle it, I think.
We never found out the meaning. I would love to know, that would mean so much to me.

There is no such thing as witches riding over you. Seriously. It is probably sleep paralysis. Its common to be awake and unable to move or speak.
