Your sun sign is the "inner" you. You at your essential core. Your moon sign rules over your emotions. Since the "inner" you and your emotions are ruled over by the same sign, it can be hard to tell the difference. You not only are a Scorpio at your very core, but your emotions are even more Scorpio since your moon sign is there.
Here are some interpretations of having a Scorpio sun vs having a Scorpio moon :) And one interpretation that combines both your sun/moon sign. :)
From Astrology-Numerology.com:
8-8 Scorpio/Scorpio
The combination of your Sun sign and your Moon sign shows a terrific creative force in your nature. This is a very hard placement to predict because you can be so executive and commanding at times, and at other times your riotous emotions and sensational tendencies take over. The pits or the heights, with little in between, is the way that your life seems to go. Emotions are normally the cause of these enormous changes in mood. Nothing you do is ever half-hearted. You are very emotional, but people may not realize this because of you natural ability to conceal or hide your feelings. You can be very impulsive or quick on the trigger, and you do best when you keep your impulses under direct and conscious mental control. You have such intensity that you generally get what you want by shear determination and persistence, not to mention a huge capacity for hard work. You are a real whiz in an emergency; forceful and in complete control. You have a powerful sex nature that would try to control a partner utterly, and you may have a bitter determination to do just that. It requires a strong degree of self-discipline for you not to dominate all those with whom you come into contact, for the cooperative spirit is not strong, and the will-to-power in personal matters is great. You have a sort of rule or ruin attitude that makes you a very formidable opponent. When your devotion is fixed, you are capable of the extremes of loyalty. But it takes a very strong and tactful person to arrive at this position, and even then it takes a good deal of flattery. Your vanity is great, and you need to be made to feel you rule the roost. In one way or another you usually do. Relationships are hard for you because you will naturally fight with people that are strong and have pride themselves, but you hold those not measuring up to such a standard in complete disdain. You have no time for weak individuals. For this you live a somewhat lonely life, and in many respects, you are a very private person.
From Bob Marks Astrology:
The Sun in Scorpio: If you ever want to know the real dirt on someone or something, ask a Scorpio Sun-Sign. Somehow, these folks manage to get all the secrets and know where all the skeletons are buried. Just don’t ask them about their own secrets. They’ll cut you off fast. Back in the late 1950’s when it was the style to have TV interview shows that humiliated and insulted the guests, the late Bert Lancaster was being interviewed by John Wingate. Lancaster thought he was there to plug his latest movie and, all of a sudden, he was being asked all sorts of personal questions. After delivering a few choice insults, as only an angry Scorpio Sun-Sign can do, Lancaster walked off leaving Wingate with 15 minutes of dead air time (it was a live show). STING. This sign represents the highest and the lowest. Dr. Jonas Salk, whose anti-polio vaccine is still saving thousands of lives every year, was a Scorpio Sun-Sign. So is Charles Manson. The highest or the lowest.
The Moon in Scorpio: The Moon is emotions and Scorpio is the sign of extremes and jealousy. Any questions? It goes without saying that these emotions have to be channeled into the right direction or there may be a few minor problems. On the positive side, this placement increases the emotional need for great sex.
Good luck! :)

While the sun represents our ego, and the rising sign determines our house placements and rulers, the moon, too, is highly important. Namely, Vedic astrology, or 'jyotish', finds the moon to be the MOST important sign of all.. and jyotish is the oldest of all astrologies.
You see, in vedic astrology, the emphasis is not placed on personality, but on happenings. The exact position of the moon is used to create your 'dasas', which are time periods when a planet's influence in upon you. These 'dasas' are further subdivided into more.. the whole process is quite difficult to work out by hand.
However, you could conclude that one's position of the moon at birth directly influences the sequence of planetary influences that takes place in your life. And sorry to tell ya, but in western astrology, being born on a new moon is very desirable: you're ego (Sun) and mind(Moon) are one and the same. However, in Vedic astrology, the closer a planet is to the Sun, the worse off it is - however, the closer any planet is to the Moon, the better it is.
Hope this helps ya!

Don't let bad science mislead you.
Your body is mostly made of water that is true; but all the water in your cells is binded. The moon's tides only affects unbinded bodies of water and it varies in different parts of the world. This due to how deep the water is, geography, and time of year. The sun also has influence on the tides but because the moon is much closer it has less than half of the power of the moon.
The link can explain more than I can; but the only body in astrology you can feel is the heat of the sun.

The position of the moon in astrology indicates our emotional, instinctive response, and how receptive we are or are not to particular moods and thoughts.
The astrological energy of the moon is changeable and fluctuating, moody even. Someone with a strong moon is likely to experience the full gamut of emotions, from high to low, at the slightest provocation.
A strong moon is also sensitive, compassionate and protecting; indeed the astrological moon tells us much about our need to protect or be protected, and our need for both emotional and financial security.
In the natal chart, the position of the Moon by sign shows how we emote and respond to our environment, as well as our instinctual habits, especially in our homes and in private. By house, the Moon's position shows which areas of life we feel the most "at home" or comfortable.

Gary, read this really carefully. I dont know where u r from but you have asked a very good question. I like it. Im an indian, studying vedic astrology. in vedic astrology moon has a major place. we indians name our children according to the moon sign. means at the time childs' birth whichever sing moon is in, that sign becomes their moon sign.
Moon is your mind. as you know scientifically, waves of moon affects water of ocean. and human body is made of 80 % of body. So, i think (and scientists think too) that it does affect our mind. moreover moon sign changes every 2.25 days whereare sun sign changes every month. so i have a question, does all the million people born in the same month have similar characteristcs ???
I hope you are satisfied by my answer. if you'd like to know more please be my guest. you can mail me through my profile.
