I'm single, and I've been applying for jobs, and attending school, though I sometimes or often yearn to connect with others. I've met and known some people, but they're not the ones I can always hang out or talk with. A couple of them seem always busy with work, the recent ones, I had been hanging out at the college, are married and have kids.

I want to work again, and possibly volunteer. I feel like my life is limited without a job. I also have this feeling that I need to meet new people again, especially single people.

"social" can mean many things, as you know, it could mean just being social and saying hello to people on elevators, in the hallways, etc. even while applying for jobs. "social life" means more like people you enjoy being with and it's hard to do without money. So you're correct in wanting to work again. But if you want to go places you need to choose the job that has income. When you make enough money for yourself only then should volunteer and only if you have the time. In most places yes you are limited without a job and without transportation. With both you can meet people. So figure out where you can work that might have a lot of people around and other companies in the same area or once you earn then meet up with church groups, college groups, special interest groups, business groups, and maybe take a course, or learn to dance, or get involved with acting groups for plays, or volunteer to work on sets for plays, etc. Then start asking people out and get to know some.

I know just how you feel. Even though I am comfortable by myself, sometimes I feel the need to be around people. I believe that is just human nature. I don't work and my life seems empty and I have a teen age daughter that always has friends over, but it doesn't take the place of another human that you feel comfortable with. Our day will come, job and people that we enjoy to be around. Just hang in there...

I know the exact feeling but I have been living fine on less money than my friends for ages because I am not dependent on the wage for happiness.
Though im getting to the age now where I need to work again but you can have a great social life without a job its just that it takes more effort sustaining it I guess.

Volunteering is high-quality yet you want to have an income to boot, so i might want to concentration on turning out to be gainfully employed. a job is a very good position to fulfill people to boot. I worry that by most suitable unemployed, your purely social existence may finally end up being with different unemployed people.

After a while this chips away at one's self esteem. It does affect the social life through other's perceptions and through your own opinion of yourself.

Keep looking and hang onto that confidence.
