If anyone gives you a definitive answer to that PLEASE inform the world, as everyone else wants to know the same thing!! Red ants are impossible to get rid of permanently!! They can live 3 weeks under water,, eat most anything,, plant and animal. killing the queen will usually destroy a nest but only if there are no young females getting ready to become queens,, these will just take the old queens place!! frequent applications of ant powders or granules will rid your area of them but any slack in the applications and they will come surging back!!!

I used ant sand in my yard as I had the same problem. They were even nesting in my plant pots. I had to apply a few times but have had no more now for some months.

I have a great answer for this one. There is a product called green light, it is sold at walmart and is a little over 2 or 3 dollars and is a powder that you sprinkle on the ant hills and surrounding areas. It is fine for pets and will make those ants disappear and not come back...really works..."Green Light"

Ants become a nuisance when they enter homes. Instead of spending money on costly pest control, you can get rid of ants by removing the food source and using soap water.
I found the information at http://www.pests.in
