One thing that really perplexes me is: Why are most of the Heisman trophy winners such busts in the NFL, or not rated highly

examples: Ty Detmer, Gino Torretta (drafted in the 7th round, played for 4 yrs in nfl), Charlie Ward (didnt even get drafted), Rashaan Salaam, Danny Wuerffel, Chirs Weinke, Eric Crouch (drafted late, converted to Wide receiver, then retired after one yr), Jason White (didnt even get drafted)

anoyone?!?!?! ideas?!?! thanks!

The NFL game is much different than the college game. It is a lot faster and more competitive. The Heisman trophy is a subjective award. It is given to the player who is voted as being the best in college. That doesn't always translate to the NFL. Some of the players you mentioned may have been deemed too small for the NFL, their other physical attributes may not have been up to par, or they may have been simply seen as overratted. There are many reasons a player doesn't get drafted whether he wins the Heisman or not.

There's a huge difference in being the best in the NCAA, and even being acceptable in the NFL. You're probably not going to see a Linebacker or Noseguard win the Heisman, but someone who does win the Heisman will meet some defensive dudes in the NFL that will make them believe a defensive player can be deserving of Heisman consideration. Take for example, Julius Peppers...let's see this year's Heisman winner try to run over him next year!

I believe that there so much pressure cause they the top College Player. Is that rough on them, yes it is. Some of the best players did not even get drafted till later in the draft. For example; Joe Montana and Tody Brady (both got drafted in the 6th round). The Heisman I think is a hype.

winning the heisman doesn't translate into success in the pros that just means that you were good on the colligiate level. Some of the best NFL stars were from schools you never heard of or weren't the most known player on their team i.e. Jerry Rice, Irving Fryer. Some of the heisman winners just don't fit the NFL mold for solid players.

thats like Troy Smith, I really don't think he is that great and I'm a Buckeye fan but everyone thinks he deserves the heisman, well to tell the truth I like Brady Quinn a lot better, he is a winner and if they both go to the NFL I will bet that Quinn will be better than Smith.
