G'day Shybusser,

Thank you for your question.

Do you mean effacement? According to the American dictionary, effacement is a noun derived from the verb efface. To efface means:

1. To rub or wipe out; erase.
2. To make indistinct as if by rubbing: "Five years' absence had done nothing to efface the people's memory of his firmness" (Alan Moorehead). See Synonyms at erase.
3. To conduct (oneself) inconspicuously: "When the two women went out together, Anna deliberately effaced herself and played to the dramatic Molly" (Doris Lessing).

Regards

effacement is the softening and thinning of the cervix which causes you to dilate. Once you are 100% effaced, you will start to dilate (or dilate quicker if you have already started).
