Don't believe everything that happens on Days of Our Lives. Though I am finding that story line amusing right now.

An amniocentesis is a test in which a small sample of water (liquor) is taken from around the developing baby. It involves passing a needle through the skin of the mother, through the wall of the uterus (womb) and on into the liquor without touching the baby or the placenta (afterbirth).
At the time of the test, around 16 weeks (it is considered safer for the foetus), there is about 150mls of fluid around the baby. About 15mls of fluid is needed to do the test.
The cells in the fluid can be used to investigate the baby's chromosomes. It is possible to find out from this investigation if the baby has Down's syndrome (mongolism), or any of the other less common chromosome disorders. The sex of the baby can be determined as well.
Amniocentesis has very few complications. However it is only performed on patients in special situations.
So, if you are not in a special situation your doctor will not do it just because you want it. To know who is the father is not a special situation. Anyway, check with him.

Yes it can, and yes it is very dangerous. I would say about 6 months would be safe and if anything should happen and it might, the pregnancy maybe viable. All procedures done during pregnancy at anytime is dangerous, so think and then ask yourself if this is best right now or can you wait until baby is born?
Good Luck

You proably could have one now...but i dont think they will just give you one just to determine who the father is....The doctor has to recommend it!
There are a variety of reasons why a doctor may recommend an amnio. They include: the mother is over age 35; the couple has already had one child with a chromosomal abnormality; the couple has a close relative with a neural tube defect; a screening test, such as a sonogram or an alpha-fetoprotein (AFP) test, yielded an abnormal result.

Very dangerous, because they poke a large needle directly into your stomach, and directly into the placenta and take out some fluid that the baby is living in.
Can you tell who the father is to the father?....what the heck are you asking me for....I wasn't there...and you were....or....can't you please wait until the baby is born and then do a paternity test....
