You can use Zone Alarm Suite (which has a trial of 30 days) or the combination Avast antivirus + AdAware anti-spyware + Zone Alarm firewall (all free). The links are right here:

Adaware, available at http://www.download.com , is a very good and free adware remover. Also, yahoo's anti-spy toolbar, also free, is very good. I use the two in conjunction with each other and feel very confident that I'm covered. Being consciensous of where you surf is also a good idea. I run adaware approximately once every couple of weeks, and it always finds something. Any time you go to a site where you get a bunch of pop ups should trigger you to want to run your anti-spy soon, as these pop up sites seem to be the most flagrant at leaving spyware or adware on your computer.

There are many good spyware tools available for purchase, but personally I've found that having the yahoo anti-spy with popup blocker and adaware has kept my system running tip-top.

All but 1 is 100% free =)

Virus = AVG
Ad ware = Ad-aware se personal
spyware = Spy bot search and destroy
Trojans = Trojan hunter (the only pay one but its a 30 day free trial and its a good program)
Fire wall = zone alarm

Yes I know adware and spyware are grouped together on those programs but it amused me to separate them

spybot search and destroy free
adaware free til 2007
webroot spyware free to scan but fee to remove

you can find them in the download.cnet.com.

Check for the popularity and the editor comments. Don't go and download everything there is, there may be some malware out there. Check for the big company products.

F-Secure is a good one. Anti virus and spy ware detector. It has a free 6 month trial with it. And the spybot: Search and Distroy is the worst don't get it.
