Question though is, this past Monday (11/6/06) I went to an OBGYN for a prenatal consult. I had to get my annual done since I was overdue. I also had a few questions for the OBGYN. But at that time I did not know I was pregnant. 5 days later.....different story! I did not like my OBGYN I had at all and I don't want to go back to him. What should I do? Should I make another appointment with a different OBGYN in the office or do I need to go back to him? And I will call on Monday to set up an appointment...but when do you think they will see me? This will be our first child.....and this is all new to me. We also don't have a family doctor because we had to change our insurance. Can someone help?

Do not feel bad about changing Docs. First of all, they are used to it. Second of all, they don't go home and cry about it, or put a black X on your chart, denoting what a bad patient you are. Just make an appointment with a woman, and if the secretary asks why, tell her you're more comfortable with a female OB. I'm not kidding, no one will care. By the way, CONGRATULATIONS! They will usually not see you until at least 8 weeks along. Really nothing to do before then, anyway. You will get to hear the heartbeat, and possibly get an ultrasiound! But some insurances will not allow an ultrasound until 14-20 weeks, so don't get too excited. Meanwhile, get the book "Your Pregnancy Week By Week" AND "The Girlfriends' Giude to Pregnancy." They saved my sanity! Good luck, and enjoy your pregnancy!

Change OBGYNs. You don't want to have to talk about personal problems with someone you're not comfortable with... Even worse, you don't want to avoid bringing up issues because of comfort!

They will see you around 12 weeks. Normally, doctors won't make prenatal appointments until after the 12 week mark - that's around when they can check the size of the uterus (in a pelvic exam if you are comfortable with that), they can use a Doppler to hear the heart beat, etc. (note that not all doctors can find the heart beat at 12 weeks, so don't worry if they can't find one when the time comes!)

Check the insurance that you are with now to find a new doctor and a new OBGYN.

Honey, you can see anyone you want to! You don't have to see the same doctor that you see for your annuals. Now that your pregnant, the situation is a bit different. You need to like the doctor that sees you throughout pregnancy, and you have to be able to trust him/her. If you're uncomfortable, use another doctor or even consider going somewhere else. Remember, you'll be seeing whoever you choose once a month, and then a few times a month when it's closer to delivery. You need to feel comfortable with your doctor. Maybe you should consider finding a practice that has midwives. I saw a midwife that was in practice with a OB/GYN and she was absolutely wonderful! I felt completely safe because there was always a doctor available if there was an emergency, but I never did need him. Whatever you happen to choose, just make sure that you're relaxed and comfortable in their presence. Ask questions. Interview them. You're going to be spending a lot of time together!! Good luck and congratulations on your pregnancy hun! I wish you the best!

If they are all positive, then signs point to the fact that you are pregnant - congrats!!

If you do not like your OBGYN, call the same office and see if you can make an appointment with a different OBGYN. Or contact your insurance provider and see if they have a list of OBGYNs in the area that you could see.

But either way, you should go and see the OBGYN to confirm that you are pregnant.

If you didn't like the doctor do not go back to him... you'll be stuck with him for 9 months and you're trusting the care of your baby to him... you are never at all obligated to stay with any doctor, but definitely an OB should be someone that you like and are comfortable with.
It would probably be easier to stay within the practice since you have a history there, but if you want to switch, the earlier the better...
You didnt mention the date of your last period but if you just showed positive you're probably like 4/5 weeks... a lot of offices probably wont see you that early, so expect to wait a couple of weeks for an appnt.

First of all, u have to be comfortable with ur OBGYN. If u do not like whom u r seeing now, change. It could take a couple of wks. for u to get in, but don't be upset over this. Don't worry, everything will be alright. If a problem should occur, call them they will see u ASAP, trust me I know, I have 2 children.

You are entitled to medical provided by someone you trust and feel comfortable with. You do not have to give reasons as to why you want to change doctors, so ask for someone else.

Congratulations on your pregnancy, and good luck to you and your partner!

get a new OBGYN it isnt too late!!!! it never will be. the only thing that might be uncomfortable is that the new OBGYN will more than likely have to "check you" him/herself. good luck finding a good one!!!
