NO i dont think that gay marriage show be ban. I feel is someone wants to get married they should. I want the politians in this country to live with a gay couple for a month just to see how we are. To prove to them that we are no different from anyone else even though all of the groups against gay marriage and LGBT commuinty think we are second class citizens. Well this needs to stop. I bet you that most of the politians and this groups don't know someone in the LGBT community or there is someone in their life that is and they don't know about it. We need to stand up for our rights and I think this would be the first step is gettin Gay marriage not banned. Sorry for the rant but I think it needed to be said.

A state government can't change the way a person thinks or believes. A state government has no ties to religion as of now. A majority of believers can't change the belief of another, until the person is willing to change the belief. I happen to not believe in gay marriage, but that is not the point. We are all free to make good choices or bad ones. Often, as humans, we are not aware that a choice may be bad for us in the big picture of life. State governments should not have the right to ban gay marriages, but a church does have the right. At the end of ones life you will get the opportunity to see if a mistake was made and the opportunity to correct it. So a word of caution, what seems good can be exactly the opposite. My gay cousin passed on many years ago.

Not unless the government was going to ban all marriage. Really the government shouldn't be involved with marriages in the first place in my opinion. But if straights can get legally wed, then so should gays. It is discriminatory to pass laws against certain groups of people.

I think a gay "joining" or "union" is just that and different than a (heterosexual) marriage. There should be no such thing as gay marriage. I also don't think that straight couples living together should have the same privilege as married couples.

No. It should be allowed to the same degree as heterosexual marriage. The only real justification for a ban is based on a certain set of religious beliefs, so by banning gay marriage, the government is endorsing one particular belief over another (thus violating 1st amendment principles and relevant precedent). There are many religious and denominations (even Christian ones) who support gay marriage and hold ceremonies recognizing the union. Thus, the ban actually restricts religious freedom by not allowing these unions to be legally recognized as heterosexual marriages are.

And as a final point: In a democracy, the majority rules, but it should not be allowed to infringe upon the rights of a minority. Otherwise, it effectively turns those minority members into second-class citizens, which isn't particularly democratic.

Definitely not! It is legal over here in New Zealand now (well, it's called a 'civil union' so as to avoid the use of the term 'marriage' which might have further ruffled some feathers), and I attended my friend and his male partner's wedding just last year.

I find it apalling that 2 men or 2 women who love each other dearly and have been together for 20 odd years or more, would still have no legal rights - before this civil union law came in, if one partner in such a couple died, the living partner would have no legal rights as a spouse - no say in anything, not even in the funeral although they would be the one who knew their partner's wishes... which is pretty terrible really. So I'm glad they now have this new law!

To the person above who says that they don't have problems with gay ppl but they think it should be banned---

That doesn't make sense! If you don't TRULY have a problem with gay people, then you should respect them enough to let them be bound together. I mean, if you don't believe in gay marriage then you probably have a problem with gay people.

Did nature intend for Males to use males as females?
Were you born that way? Marriage was instituted by the Church, not the state!

Do you want your child's butt to be used by other males?

Or maybe you think that nature gave females vagina's so that they can rub them together? Have not heard of any one being born that way either!

The only reason for SEX is life! That is why the female body is mostly different from the male body?

There is nothing to think about!

Nature does not give choices or rights. You either live by natures rules/laws or nature will take you out!

No, of course not. It would be unconstitutional, and otherwise bigoted. We are not a christian nation, but rather one limited by what what is written in the constitution, and even including the elastic clause, there is no possible way one could interpret any article of the constitution to mean that a gay marriage is unconstitutional.

I think they should ban marriage altogether..it serves little or no purpose. Children of a relationship can and should be protected by courts and laws as to support. But what purpose does marriage serve today...divorce is extremely expenisive, people get married for stupid reasons and spend the rest of their lives paying for it. Tax advantages of marriage are totally unfair to everyone...why should someone have a tax advantage because they are married??? I cannot see it. Pressure to get married can be overwhelming...without marriage, many more relationships would survive, I suspect. Good luck
