Hey BlueEyes:
Wanna write a book, eh? Well, the first thing you gotta have is an idea of what your story is gonna say to the reader(s). How about characters? Who and how many? To begin your story, you can always have one of your characters say the opening line of your book. Or, you can ask the reader(s) a question (about your story-line). There's a dozen different ways to begin your book. If you would like, email me at: andiezeke@yahoo.com and I'll share as many of my starting methods with you as you can absorb. I love to write. Romantic drama might be interesting to begin.

I'm starting ot write a book too. You have to start out with a timeline first. Also, think about the characters. Make them real people in your mind, as complex and deep as you can. Once you've got your timeline down, do an outline of the story. It may seem redundant to do a timeline and then an outline, but the book doesnt have to put everything in chronological order; you can use flashbacks, etc. So when you make your outline you can decide all this. Then, start writing. You can write as rough a draft as you want, or you can refine it as you write and have less work to do later. You dont have to write it all in order, you can piece it together later, but it does help to go in order. When you get writer's block though, its alright to skip around.
As the story evolves, don't be afraid to make little changes or adaptations... but pay attention to what else in the story those changes will affect. Use foreshadowing and build toward an exciting climax (this should be part of your outline) that way your story doesn't drag. Think about what kind of statement you want to make, or what you want the overall point or message of your book to be. I hope all this helps.
Best of luck!

You only learn to write by writing. Just start writing the story as it comes to you. It doesn't even have to be written with all of the events in the finished order. Then find someone who knows how to write stories and let that person read it and give you suggestions. Pay close attention to the suggestions and try to fulfill them. I would be willing to look at some of your work. I have sold stories and have spent a lot of time writing. Go to my profile to find out how to contact me. The big thing is that you need to start writing just as though you were reading something you'd really like. Writing is putting your thoughts and ideas on paper, or in the computer these days, and that's precisely what you have to do. Just begin and go from there.

Consider your plot line. Make a synopsis and then an outline of it. Consider your characters. Write down the way they look and what their individual characteristics are.
Consider your setting and write a description of it.
Find a beginning. It is usually a meeting of some sort. Make it full of action to grab the attention right off.
As you write, consult the description and character sketches to keep everything consistent.
Use imaginative, simple vocabulary. Obey grammatical rules strictly. Build in action. Keep your conversations revealing the story. Don't tell it! Foreshadow events with little hints in conversations and situations.

Just start writing, follow your heart. Try not to look back. If you have to, don't start criticizing yourself because it may overwhelm you and you will want to stop. Just start writing the way you think it should be, read the entire thing, and go from there. Just don't give up, because I've made that mistake too many times in my life.

I'm writing a novel as well. For me, I've always never been too good with outlines. I say just start writing and see what comes to mind. However, before you start, I think you should definitely know how it is going to end. Good luck!

a lot of the best books havent started with the firsst chapter, if you just let your ideas flow and write whatever part comes to mind it's easier to work backwards sometimes, and youll have every chapter being great =]

I am trying too! But I can't get past the first chapter. I think you need to figure out the beginning, middle, and end. Then work on your characters. Then do an outline and follow it.

Think of a favorite time or place you have been and write about that.
Write about a friend or realitive.
i would say it is easier to think of something that has already happened.I wish you the best on trying to write your book and hope my info. will help.

This may sound harsh but if you don't know what to write then it's not really going to happen. Please berate me if you become a best selling novelist in the next 12 month. It may be a starting point to be able to spell currectly((sic)lookup bathos) and understand grammar.
