City of the Living Death - Italy 1980 (directed by Lucio Fulci),
There is a young man that gets a drill through his head and I mean right through his head you can see the drill as he opens his mouth.
I asked Why did the director do this scene? The special make up effect is really really good, but anyone can explain me ??

Infection.
Its a Japanese horror flick, subtitles and everything. Stick with it through the cheesy beginning and it ends up making some of the other movies people are naming on here look like Sesame Street.

The ring--but it was a combination of the film and the string of strange events that happened after I saw the film

Watcher in the Woods. It is a Disney film, but it has given me nightmares for 20 years now!

"Jaws"...hands down! Second scariest: "The Shining" and third: "Sleepy Hollow"...actually, that was scarier than Jaws! I can't decide! It's the only "ghost" film that's ever scared me.
