I'd love to live and work in the UK for a year or two. I would not move there permanently.

I am uncomfortable with the nasty leftish tinge of the Labour Party. Offices, roads, homes, stores,...all feel a bit cramped to me. Goods of many types seem considerably over-priced (including food, clothing, transportation, housing, etc.) Taxes on everything seem exorbitantly too high, also. The press behaves visciously, without principles that I can see. The clostrophobic & ridgid English class system makes me uncomfortable,...too little social mobility. And, finally, I am not comfortable with Parlamentary style democracy, and do not enjoy soccer or beer. But the UK is a Gorgeous collection of countries---love visting there.

No. And for one simple reason: education.

The public education system in the UK is horrendously inadequate. In fact, British parents are flocking to the private schools, which, in terms of quality, are about identical to the public school boards here. They may used to have been a great place, but true living is living in North America.

I lived in London for four years from 1988-1992, they were some of the happiest of my life. Two of my greatest passions are history and the theater, in London I was in the thick of both. If I could spend my retirement there and not have to worry about living expenses, I'd go in a heartbeat.

No! 1. I don't know anyone there. 2. I've never been there. 3. I don't know anything about the British or their culture. 4. They probably wouldn't want me anyway. They have enough of their own political extemists, I'm sure. 5. I am a dyed in the wool American and I love my country no matter what you say.

No need to. Just wait 5 - 10 years. We'll end up just like them. It's just a matter of time until we are all like europe, canada, etc. Just look at what's happened in the past 10-15 years around here. It's a total shame.

If worse came to worst (and I mean somewhere between a notch worse than now and a nighmare scenario), I might be obliged to move there temporarily. Otherwise, I feel safe here.

Well, I like the UK quite a lot, but if I had to leave the US to live, I'd choose Australia or Canada first. Then UK. It is just too crowded.

No. I would visit there, but I would never live there. There are way more opportunities in America.
