If you are a serious drinker, I would suggest giving yourself some time to adjust to handling life without that crutch before you attempt to give up smoking too. Also, as cliche as it sounds, consider going to an AA meeting. You may find that it just may help you change your life. Not just because it will help you learn to live without alcohol but if you really learn the program (the steps) you will discover a new way of life that will change everything about you.

Do one thing at a time, first your body will react to it, it will miss the booze and if you do it all at once it will miss the nicotine and all the other wonderful poison. It can be extremely stressful and even my doctor said "take it easy". Cut down for a week and further down for another and in the third week stop. If it get too difficult get yourself some mint coated nicorette. Works like a charm, gum and also drink lots of water, stay away from smokers for a while, take a multiple vitamin each day and if you're in a situation where you used to light up, go out for a short walk or do something on the computer, it will get easier as time passes. You will never get free of the occasional urge but it will diminish with time.

First you have to REALLY be committed to quitting and then get informed. There are all kinds of organizations out there that will help you with free literature, Like the American Cancer Soc., etc. In my state I even called the state Quit Hotline & they sent me 2 mos. worth of patches free. I never thougt I could do it after 20+ yrs. but it's been 9 mos. now & it's worth it! Also to stay sober I had to seek the help of AA. Good luck!

I did the whole cold turkey thing, and to supplement it, everytime i thought about giving in and smoking, I made myself eat brocoli covered in tobasco sause. After only 7 days i had compeltely pushed cigs out of my life. 8 months free!

dont worry about all the other issues right now just focus on one goal. in this case u want to quit drinking and that is good. it may seem easier now but it isnt easy to keep dedicated to. it isnt good to overload yourself with all your problems at once. focus on eliminating one problem at a time or else not all the bad habits will get broken.

maybe one thing a t a time is best. Try a support group like AA, when I quit smoking, I ate sunflower seeds like crazy, it got me through the first few weeks!

they have patches and gums that work. take up a sport. I took up running and quit smoking 25 years ago

I used the patches and they helped. Also a couple weeks supply on Xanax. And if you have lots of money send your family on a vacation before you hurt them all. Taking on alot....Good luck

Yes, ask GOD to bless all of your dreams. I applaud you for taking your life back, and taking back control of your habits, yes they are habits...and you can break your own habits!
I quit smoking ...when I was 20, and it seems like a million years ago.....I chased after packs of ciggaretts, and realized that I did not own one of them....THEY OWNED ME!1
So I asked GOD to please, please, please help me quit, I threw away the 2 packs and quit....it was tough and I chewed so much gum the first month...then it got easier and easier.....
and I smell people who smoke when they walk by and I can't believe how they don't know that they STINK!...YES THEIR CLOTHES, THEIR BREATH AND EVERYTHING!
