no, they do not have to tell you jack.

They get away with it because there are far too many of them to keep busting. The fuzz can't keep up with it.

Depending on if you were a registered prostitute and then also if there were a warrant for you, a cop would not have to disclose anything other than your rights to have a attorney present during questioning etc. else if no warrant he has no jurisdiction other than proving he is a cop to get your paperwork and see that you indeed are a registered prostitute. Many registered prostitutes are spaded and cannot have a baby, many also have injections and prescriptions that allow them to consume male sperm and not get sick or have adverse reactions. Most of the females that are hardcore movie actresses are of this type. Policing joints that compel female prostitutes to do business there is not a number one priority of the police department however sometimes necessity calls and a certain somebody must be rounded up and creditentials are necessary as the front desk will ask and you know that if they come face to face with you they went through the front desk and have whatever they needed to get to you so your perhaps not a suspect but a very necessary testimony and they will bring you down if you refuse to go with them anyway their reation could range from a mere hold on you to handcuffs if you insist you have done nothing and throw a fit it could also get you deeper into trouble by spitting onto a officer or even cursing the officer whom was doing his duty to find you. I cannot say what states this applies but registered prostitutes have a better playground wherever they go and are no in jail long either as their attorneys are already aware their named client is at the station and headed that way so you do not have to really call him he will come for you immediately and settle out of court all the extra trouble you caused so be wise and share intelligence and do not resist when you are asked politely to go with them when they have been identified as police you know they are on the level. In Africa legal prostitution exists as well as Thailand, Japan, China, and some other countries like Germany and a few others in Europe. In other words certain circumstances will alert you that a cop is a cop and nothing else.

No, if you were obviously breaking the law, and/or obviously "in business" (as someone might be when advertising on Craigslist) BEFORE the officer shows up, per this wikipedia entry:

"For the defense to be successful, the defendant must demonstrate that the police induced an otherwise unwilling person to commit a crime. However, when a person is predisposed to commit a crime, offering opportunities to commit the crime is not entrapment, a widely held misconception similar to the idea that police officers must answer questions truthfully if they are asked the same question three times, or that they must say "yes" if asked if they are a police officer."

A police officer is not required by law to advise you that they are the police. However, if they solicit you they would be engaging in entrapment and that is illegal.

Yes they have to tell you they are a cop ... at least that is what I always thought. I dont now how much time cops actually spend bothering with personal ads for escort services anyway.
