I’m not sure about dog food but live horses are killed to make food for Zoo animals. The meat is also exported to other countries for human consumption. A new law makes it illegal to kill horses in the US for meat so now they are loaded on barges taken out to sea into international waters where they are killed and then brought back to US plants to be processed. So the new law makes life for these condemned animals even worse. I’m no fan of horse slaughter but there are things worse than death, mainly living a life of neglect with little or no food, water, bedding or shelter.

There are still two slaughter houses left in the US. They are both in Texas. They use the horse meat for zoo carnivores, some wet dog food, and it's a delicacy over seas. Horses are not used for glue that's just a myth.

Depends on where and how the horse dies. If it's in an animal lab, or if it was a wild horse that died and was picked up by animal control, then yes. A truck comes 'round and gets all the lab animals, takes them to a renderer, and they all go into the machine to make pet chow. This is why those of us who work in animal shelters get a sick laugh out of things like Purina's "Kitty stew". Sadly, it's made with real kitties. And puppies, and roadkilled wildlife, and lab rats, and all manner of things.
The packaging laws in the US that demand full disclosure of the ingredients of a food product apply to human food, not animal food. There's a loophole big enough to drive a truck through there. A renderer's truck specifically.

No, They found that horse meat contained unacceptable chemicals that were harmful to dogs and cats.
Horses are still slaughtered in the US for transport to foreign countries. Approximately 1% of the horse population in the US meets this fate, which is 90,000+.
It is very sad that we send meat to other countries and do not tell them that we will not even feed it to our dogs and cats for the fear of the harm it will cause to them.
There are actually 3 Horse Slaughter plants remaining in the US. 2 are in Texas and 1 is in Illinois. All are foreign owned and Pay minimal as in $5.00 to no taxes at all. The industry profits nearly 40 million a year...

Not really. The meat gets shipped to Europe for human consumption. This is of course after they are hung by their back foot and have their throats slit.
And it's not just junk horses. A Kentucky Derby winner was sent to slaughter because he couldn't produce winning foals. So, support the horse race industry and you support this.
Of course, the whole thing is kinda ridiculous. Americans are all up in arms over horse slaughter, as they chow down on their Big Mac.

Horses still get slaughtered for PEOPLE FOOD. In France for instance, many people eat horse. In fact there is legislation going on right now to end horse slaughter. Check with your local Humane Society or SPCA for information on this and for information on what you can do to help stop horse slaughter.

No. There was a law against this years ago. Horse meat slaughtered in the U.S. is exported to foreign coutries like France for expensive restaurants. This is NOT feeding the poor. Horse meat is the most expensive on the market. However, there is a bill that would stop horses being slaughtered in the U.S. & from being exported for slaughter. THANK GOODNESS. I guess it depends on where you are. We were just viewing some horses on the net the other day that had been rescued from a meat processing factory. They were healthy young horses, just homeless. We checked the labels on pet tins in the supermarket after that some just said made from selected processed meats.
