i think the way they went about taking it off him was harsh and that's why all of the long term fans still remember it.
Especially as Shaun Micheal's covered up his involvement in it until recently.
However i agree with you that he should have done the honourable thing and rolled over. After all he was leaving regardless of the fact it was in his home town.

I am just starting to understand this whole situation(I asked a similar question last night about the Bret Hart vs HBK match) If Bret was going to WCW in the first place then He should have already agreed on HBK winning the match, that would be the ONLY real thing to do. Like You say, You can't take the WWF belt and take it to WCW. I think that it might have just been good acting between Hart, HBK and Vince. Look at how some of the Wrestlers act today. Some You can see that they are bad actors and others are pretty damn good at acting. Thats what I think. Even though Bret acted stuck up most of the time, He still gave kids His sunglasses, which was cool.So I can't really tell if He was whining or acting maybe both. I would like to see Bret come back to the WWE. It would change the WWE and will make Vince even more money. It would make history.

ok here's the situation
Shawn and Bret hate each other in real life(its no secret)
Bret did not want to loose to his rival in his hometown so bret and vince agreed it would end a double DQ (hart foundation and dx intervier) and then the next night(raw) bret would eithor loose or give up the title(cant remember which)
but vince went behind brets back and paid shawn and earl hebner(ref) to screw bret
so yeah vince is to blame 100%

well before reading shwans book I knew little about it I thoght shawn slipped a 20 to the ref or something but yes in essence bret did screw bret if had just done the job then it wouldn't have happened vince couldn't take the risk of the belt going to WCW and it was certainly a possibly

No, Bret definitely did not screw Bret! Vince screwed Bret and everyone knows it, now, because of Vince, I and so many others barely ever get to see Bret on TV or anywhere because he refuses to join WWE and who can blame him?! I hope that answers your question.

I watched that match and it made me sick!
Just like Bret....whine bicth and moan!!!
He was told to lose and as an employee of the WWF...Vince was the BOSS and Bret was to release the title, not create his own version of the match!!
I watched Bret from the beginning of his career and he just whines all the time!!!
"" VINCE>>> I WANT MY BELT BACK""
How many rematches can a guy have??
He was a GREAT wrestler but he was also a GREAT whiner!!
glad he's gone!!

yes bret should have taken the fall.and vince was in a similar situation with ALUNDRA BLAZE. she made a deal to re sign her contract and the next night she was on wcw she dumpped the championship in the garbage can. so vince was'nt gonna get "screwed over" again.so i say f'u bret hart.

Everybody screwed Bret and he screwed himself. While I think he is a great wrestler-him and Shawn Michaels (who I also like and respect)both guys acted like divas back in those days. It's a belt that isn't worth anything in real life and even if bret had won it-he couldn't have done anything with it because its copyrighted and if it showed up on WCW-he would have been sued and he would not have won that lawsuit. Bret was spoiled and in my opinion deserved it.

I think Bret screwed himself because his behaviour was very unprofessional and his career in wwf ended badly. He then went on to have a poor run in wcw. I was still a big fan of him.

Have to agree with you there. Brett should have taken the fall and done what he was told. Do the honourable thing and retire a legend. Now everyone thinks of that when Brett's name is mentioned. HBK did the right thing and was proved right. Look where he's at now! A legend!
