I think you will find that Palm is best for ebook reading. I recently just replaced my Palm Tungsten E PDA and a basic Kyocera cell phone with a Palm Treo 700p.

I am happy to say, that even though the Treo 700p has a smaller screen than the E, it is a higher resolution screen than the E (and most Pocket PC devices, including, oddly, the Treo 700w - The windows version of the Treo) and reading ebooks is very comfortable even when using the smallest font sizes.

Also, it works quite well with both the Mobipocket Reader and PalmReader software. I do a lot of ebook reading and I was worried about losing my ebook capabilities but it works just fine as an ebook reader.

In fact, I haven't found a single older program, that doesn't work equally well with both the Tungsten E or the Treo. Palm has done a good job with compatibility issues.

The Treo 700p can use up to a 2 gig SD card as additional storage. So, 2 large SD cards could carry quite a library of books. I have 2 cards but I have one for ebooks and music, and another for 'data' storage purposes, but there's no reason why you can't arrange things however it's best for you.

I like the Treo, since it can function not only as a TRUE PDA but as a telephone as well. I get all the advantages of a 'smartphone' coupled with the advantages of a true handheld computer. And I have only ONE geeky device to tote about or hang from my belt!

If you think you just won't need a phone, or if budget is a concern, the Tungsten E2 will work quite well for your purposes. It is smaller thinner and lighter than the Treo. I used my E for almost 3 years, gave it quite a beating, and it was still going strong when I retired it.

I have a Palm TX and love it. I don't know about Pocket PC.

I'm taking A&P with the intention of becoming a nurse. I purchased a tiny, fold-up keyboard for the TX which I use for taking notes in the lecture hall. It fits on those tiny, fold-down writing desks, but has full-size key spacing. I can download and edit the notes on my PC. I scan illustrations from the textbook into my PC and download them to the handheld. The software automatically resizes the illustrations for optimum performance. The screen clarity and color fidelity is quite good, and you can zoom in for details. I've also seen some medical software designed specifically for Palm handhelds on the internet, but I haven't tried any of them myself yet.
