At the core holidays are great. At the simplest level, they are a break from work and a chance to have fun with friends and family.

Many of the holidays are over the top. Too many people worry at Christmas, but gifts and decorations. There is also an incredible pressure to have the perfect Christmas, instead of the more possible goal of just having a good time. This pressure wreaks the fun and celebration.

I think it’s really only overrated when the holiday becomes commercialized. Holidays like Valentine’s Day and Christmas are losing their value because of the dollar amounts associated with them over the love and traditions behind them. My family never looses sight of that, as the more important day of the Christmas season is Christmas Eve, when we celebrate the Feast of the Seven Fishes. This commemoration and its value is passed down the generations.

Holidays are a way of celebrating life. The 8 pagan holidays, on some of which the most common holidays we celebrate today are based, each celebrate a different aspect of the life cycle. In its own way, in its own turn.

Celebrating the cycles of life psychologically reinforces the idea of continuance, of eternity, of the idea that life goes on no matter what the world throws at you. That it never really ends. It's very reassuring.

Plus they're fun ;-)

Holidays are intended to make money off people. Celebrate life every single day!! It is your choice whether to conform to these force fed norms of society. Just remember you always have the choice to live your own life. Conforming to the standards of culture is the ritualistic decay of having a life lived for you.

Do you remember the song "Celebrate Good Times..Come on"..

People especially friends and families get together, share meals, talk, and share presents....now I can't think of a better way to celebrate....and next year....I guarantee all of them won't be here.........some move...and some move on permanently!

Celebrate life!...now!
