The Tigers got stiffed, big time.

Wouldn't it be ironic if Gary Sheffield hit a walk off homer in the 7th game of the 2007 ALCS to beat the yankees?

Now, I would find that funny as heck!

Well, it's good for the Yankees. They played very well when he was injured last year, and his coming back disturbed the chemistry the team had developed. It's also a good move to save $13 million in salary this year, which will help the payroll go down some. It's a good trade for the Tigers, but it will be interesting to see how Sheffield does in a pitcher's park.

I don't see Sheffield hitting a walk-off homer in any series. A-Rod seems to have taken most of the heat, but what has Sheffield done in the postseason since he's been with the Yankees? Good riddance, Gary. We'll enjoy Abreu and his better all-around game over a full season this year.

I think that the move will benefit both teams

The Yankees were wise pick up the option on Gary and be able to deal him. They picked up some good prospects and this will help the Yankees on the road ahead.

The Tigers have picked up a power bat. Even at 38 and being off for most of the year due to an injury Gary is a force in any line up. I wish him well

Overall.. I think it was one of those deals that was good for both teams.. in the long run better for the Yankees, who have virtually no pitching prospects in the minors that are noteworthy..

And it's a price that Detroit can easily afford, believe it or not.. First, The Tigers still have too many starters expected to be on the major league roster, including Jordan Tata and Andrew Miller.. and the lower levels are stocked full of promising young arms like Matt O' Brien (8-1 in 11 starts2.79 with 42Ks in 67 IPs and only one homer allowed in class A, along with Chris Cody 4-1 in 11 starts, 2.38 and 50 Ks in 53 IPs and also only one homer allowed.. Burke Badenhop in Class A West Michigan went 14-3 2.84 124 Ks in 171 IPs allowing 6 homers

Sanchez was shut down after late July, suffering from a 'tired arm or shoulder" He's a very good prospect, but he's become the odd man out in Detroit with starters expected to compete for the rotation, Rogers, Bonderman, Verlander, Maroth, Robertson, Miner, Ledezma, Miller and Tata are considered ML quality starters (some still need some seasoning) Zumaya is the future closer, along with Rodney, so Whelan, and Clagget, both expected to be one inning pitchers, possibly closers (Whelan is the better closer prospect) All three became expendable in the Tigers system, esepcially for a bat capable of hitting 30 or more homers and driving in runs.. Sheffield will primarily be a DH and spell Ordonez and Monroe on occasion.. It's a very good move for Detroit now, and a solid move for the Yankees in the future..

Good deal for both teams though I think the Yankees got a bit more talent overall. But the Tigers can afford to give up that talent and now they have the huge bat which they lacked all season.

Initially I would say bad, Tigers need pitching prospects you can never have too much of that, he is old but not that old to surprise it might turn out good, are they going to DH him or play him in right, Ordonez is not a great fielder but better than Sheffield. A lot of players do not take to the DH spot and I can see Sheffield being that type. Well we will have to see. GO TWINS. I hope Carlos Silva or Matt Garza plunk Sheffield just for being a jerk

Sheffield is a pain in the a*s*s and will create a problem in the Tigers clubhouse. I am glad that the Yankees got rid of him because he just brings problems and the yankees have Bobby Abrue which it a much better fit that him and the Yankees dont need that

I think it's a great trade because the Tigers have good pitching, wich was proven last season, but they still need the offense I mean sure Ivan Rodrigez is good but he can't do it all by himself he usually goes through slumps and thats when a guy like Sheffield would be good to have

Good move I guess to get some power. But The Yankees needed to do that move. I wonder if Sheffield will explode during next season if something happens and then start accusing people like he did the past few weeks on the Yankees.

Sheffield has been a cancer everywhere he has played, Milwaukee, San Diego, Florida, Dodgers, Atlanta and New York. He will have a good year initially and the next year, he will ***** and cry for more money. One of the reasons for Detroit's successful season was that there were no egos on the team. Sheffield will be a major distraction. You can make book on that.

Tigers have good pitching and good hitters but little power. If Sheffield has not lost his form from injuries, the price was definitely right.
