For the last 2 years or so, I have been searching for gainful employment. I am currently employed in a position that is headed nowhere and I am ready to move on and expand my career knowledge. Due to my having so many different unrelated skills, I haven't been able to narrow down my career choices. The career coach is supposed to help me determine my strengths and look for careers that fit my strengths. The cost is roughly $400 for 6 30-minute sessions. Given my desparation to move on, do you think it is worth a try? I won't have a problem paying for the sessions I just want to know if I should bother.

I have checked references for different coaching firms extensively over the last 2 months. Someone in one of my Yahoo! groups hired a career coach and had good results. He also said that $400 bucks for 6 sessions was nothing compared to what he paid.

I paid over three thousand dollars to a company to help with career development... I learned a lot, but I think it was very much over-priced. I'm sure your Career Coach has some references... check them. Then if the references are favorable, I don't think $400 is unreasonable at all. Good luck.

It seems as if that's not unreasonably priced.

Before I'd commit to it, however, I'd ask for a list of reference, and I'd call all of them. I would want to know that the career coach in question actually produces results.

As long as the money doesn't bother you, it couldn't hurt. The benefits could be priceless. Personally I think it sounds like kind of a rip off, but even if they got you on a track you hadn't previously thought of it would be worth it, right?
