Please nothing about gods because there has been endless stories about god(s) creating everything throught human history. I dont want to hear another one.

My theory is that our universe is a speck on the ring finger of some giant.

Evidence for the "Big Bang" is pretty strong these days. What the Universe was "before" that is a question rendered moot by the theory, which hypothesizes that space AND time were created during the "explosion."

The only wrinkles in the Big Bang theory these days are expansions of it, to include multiple universes existing in seperate multi-dimensional "Membranes", or BRANES. This particular model posits that "Big Bang" or similar events occur when the BRANES interact somehow.

How exactly these BRANES interact is something totally beyond my understanding, like mostly everything else. It's described as a "collision", but this word is inadequate to describe what actually happens in dimensions higher than 4 when BRANES "intersect".

The end results of these "intersections" are new universes which are created from the resulting "Big Bang" explosions. What happens to the original BRANES and their universes?

Beats me!

Start here for an overview of what BRANES are:

and click on the included cosmology links for specific application to theories of the Universe.

Good Luck!

Oooh! Tough one, but excellent question! Too many theories, too little time, my brain can't quite wrap around most of the theories out there already? It boggles the mind... perhaps we don't exist at all, we're just a reflection of light, vibrations, & energy from some thing else that does exist? Or not. But what ever the truth really is the world & the galaxies & the vast universe are beyond beautiful, when you see the astonishing pictures we can now enjoy!

I agree a lil with both schools of thought. Might have been the "Big Bang". I think there must have been something in the universe with an eye for the strange and beautiful to make the earth such a wonderful place. Like a marble spinning out of control, someone put it into motion.

The universe whether it "began" as a mono-block left over from some other universe or as an energy burst from the space-time continum did begin for us some 12 to14 billion years ago. Experiments conducted here on earth does indicate that the space-time continum does create matter. Just how is not yet clear.

Our human languages are entirely inadequate for this discussion, which would contain numerous un-resolvable paradoxes.

We could say that the Universe has "ALWAYS" existed, which goes against the laws of physics, or we might say that the Universe suddenly *POPPED" into existence at some point in "TIME", which besides voilating the laws of physics makes the assumption that there is some kind of "standard time zone" for every sentient being throughout the entire Universe.

It's unprovable, and therefore a pointless waste of intellectual energy, especially since you have already loaded the question by disqualifying any kind of 'God' being the original cause.

I think the universe itself probably has always existed. The whole thing about having a beginning or ending is a law that applies to earth, and not to the universe itself.

Your dream is very positive. You're lying back watching the clouds just as you are watching the events in your life go by. Everything has clarity and definition, and there is variety as well. You're in a relaxed position indicating that you feel strong and confident about the way things are progressing. The sun feels good and colorful butterflies surround you. These are all the options and opportunities that you have right now, and they are plentiful. They can also signify the people in your life right now. Bright, energetic and beautiful, you are surrounded by positive energy from most every direction. This is a wonderful time for you where you are the one who's in charge of your life, and things are going extremely well. Seize some of those opportunities!

Funzo. Let me get this straight... You are calling scientists, AND religious people crazy?
You are entitled to your own opinion, but YOU my friend are the crazy one...
I will steer clear of the religion thing as much as possible, because you asked not to delve in it, but The Big Bang, and Geniuses sound remarkably alike.
I too believe that there was a time of singularity, and for whatever reason, we have come to his point. The universe is expanding as we speak, and will continue to expand.

i dont know but this question is frightening if you follow it through.
either it always existed and were also doomed to exist for all eternity...no hope of it stopping...even suicide merely halts the show untill the time were reincarnated again!
if we are inside/part of the fabric of existence, how can existence itself have never existed?
so if existence has always existed, and we are proof of existence as we are here now, then maybe non-existence is an impossibilty and merely theoretical/conceptual.
