Yes, and actually that happens to me all the time...I have a 'crush' on a particular woman and drop hints and sometimes hints that are bigger than anvils, but they never seem to get the clue...or maybe they just ignore it...

I have a secret crush, but I can't tell anyone that knows me because I'd be mocked for the rest of my life for liking my history teacher.
I don't drop hints though.....my teacher's married and has a kid.
Everyday, I wish I could change that

As a matter of fact there is somoene...someone I have known for many years (14 in fact). I truly wish there was someway I could tell her...but it just isn't possible...not under the current situation....not in the current climate....but hopefully, a day will come when I can speak my heart.....
