Ants become a nuisance when they enter homes. Instead of spending money on costly pest control, you can get rid of ants by removing the food source and using soap water. I found the information at http://www.pests.in

The best thing to do is not to leave anything out that they can eat. Any open containers like cereal, sugar, bread, etc., should be put in air tight containers or refrigerated.

Any food that is going to be thrown out should either be put down a garbage disposal, the toilet, sealed in a plastic bag, or left in the refrigerator until you actually take the garbage out the house or apartment.

Don't leave water sitting out and make sure your faucets don't drip so they don't have an indoor water source.

Bay leaves scattered inside your cupboards are supposed to repel ants.

Ant's leave a scent trail for other ants to follow when they have found something to feed on. If you already have them following a trail then use a cloth lightly dampened with ammonia to wipe the area clean, and it will cut the scent left by the ant and you won't have an army of them making that long line that you see usually when you find ants.

I believe coffee grounds sprinkled outside the house was said to keep ants away... try a lil outside where you know there are ants and see if they keep away from it.

As for a chalk line...ants communcate by scent, drawing a line with chalk across an ant path might confuse them for a short while untill they refigure out where the path is at... works very well with your finger also...

This isn't answering quite the way you wanted, but you should get the granules that kills the queen. I found that those ant traps help.

Maybe try using a lid with bleach in it but with honey on the edges!!
Worked for me!! they eat honey then the bleach slowly kills em!!
Good luck!
Or maybe try surface spray for cleaning benches and stove tops as it has chemicals that kill em while ur cleaning the benchtops!!
