The tail length on a terrapin is not the only way to tell if the turt is male or female. It's one of the combined ways...along with nail length...and the bottom of the plastron. If you look under the belly of the shell...a female will have a shell that is pretty flat across...or bowls outward slightly. This allows for room when she becomes gravid...or starts developing eggs. The male will have a shell that curves inward on the belly part. This allows for a good fit when mounting the female for mating. It's a "spoon" effect so he has less chances of sliding off so easily.

Male:
Longer claws
Longer tail
Concaved plastron

Female:
Shorter claws
Shorter tail
Flatter plastron

As for the aggressiveness...If you have two males...they will be aggressive because of territorial issues. You'll be best off seperating the two before they get stress-related illnesses from being housed together.

Male teripans have longer tails than females (sex organ is in the tail) , If the female is egg laiden she will be more aggressive. Most turtles/teripans that burrow will have long nails.

Take the teripan in question and do the following:

Get two teripans one female, one male and put them in a large tank with the one you need to find out what gender it is. If it heads for the male it is female and if it heads for the female it is male.

Easy to do and accurate...
