Not sure about alligators, but I do know that crocodiles and sharks "fight" in the same waters. There is no decisive answer as both are capable of killing the other. The croc has a slight advantage of being able to handle shallow water better than the shark.

on land the alligator because the shark can't move but the shark would win in the water because it can move faster and more easily in the water

Depending on the fighting location. if its in a lake or river the alligator will have an advantage, if its in the ocean the shark will have the advantage.
