I use the internet to help me write.

I write a freelance newspaper column. The internet can be a useful source of help for me while writing. When I'm doing a column, I focus on the job at hand. When I want to go on the internet for fun, it's when I'm not concentrating on the column. It's called focusing.

I also write nonfiction and use the internet for help with that, too.

Concentrating on one thing at a time is the key. I tell myself I can "play" when the work's done!

It's nigh impossible.

I do use the internet for some research, but I have to actually log off my connection in order to get anything done.

Since what little dicipline I do have, is expended actually sitting down and writing for x number of hours.

What are you doing here in Answers? Don't you have some writing to do? I do... dangit~!

Oh my gosh I've been there. Its impossible. I open up microsoft word, set up the back ground colors, and font colors and I am completely set to write. Then I'll write for maybe 10 minutes...then I'll stop and think about what I'm writing. Then I'll get writer's block. Then I'll open yahoo pool to play while "I think." Then I'll eventually see my microsoft button and remember the task at hand and go back to writing...occasionally forgetting about my pool game.

Its impossible.

I have two words for you: "Compulsion" and "guilt." Despite the promise of the internet, I often feel compelled to write. And if I go to long without writing, I begin to feel guilty for neglecting the poor characters, who are doubtless in a foul situation.

So there you have it.

I'm not a writer but it's rather hard for me to do homework (which i'm suppose to be doing) on the computer, let alone writing a book. It's a mystery........

They concentrate on the job at hand. If it is important enough to them, they will not play around. Priorities!

I just turnoff my airport, and that extra step keeps me away. The best is to go somewhere where you can't connect to the internet... then you can't even think about it!
