Yes, I believe so. Depends where you live. If you need to stretch the budget to get more groceries, things that are healthy and cheap are items like brown rice, whole grain pastas and packaged variety of beans. Frozen vegetables keep indefinitely if you are not sure to eat fresh ones soon enough. There is almost always meats on sale, so buy those cuts.

Absolutely. I am a retired single guy that does a fair amount of my own cooking. I have been keeping good track of my food expenses for the past 8 years. My average food expense for 2006 is $185 per month. Five years ago it was $150 a month so that gives you a little idea of inflation as my eating habits haven't changed that much. These figures include items such as vitamins, shampoo, aspirin, cleaning materials etc, in addition to food. As a girl you would undoubtedly need cosmetics, etc which would not be included in my figures.
Hope this helps!

Don't listen to plr2win! You don't need to go that low-rent!

$100 is PLENTY for a single person!

Start by getting yourself a bag of flash-frozen chicken breasts. For the most part, this will cover your dinner protein for the full two weeks, and should cost only $8 or $9.

Obviously, fresh vegetables are best, but it can be difficult to buy them in portions that are appropriate for one person. Frozen vegetables are a good alternative, as is pre-cooking larger amounts, and freezing single-serving portions. If you're going to buy fresh veggies, set aside some of your money so that you can go back to get more fresh stuff later. I would assume spending $15 - $20 on vegetables (they're good for you, so eat lots of them!). Additionally garlic, peppers and onions are great for seasoning the whole meal, so don't skimp.

As far as your dinner-time side dishes go, you have a lot of flexibility. A bag of white or brown rice costs less than $2, and you'd only need 1/2 cup (precooked) for your serving. I also often can find packages of seasoned rice/potatoes/pasta for $1 - $2 each, and most of these would be 2 - 3 servings. Assume spending another $10 for these.

For breakfasts, a package of instant oatmeal (10 breakfasts) is under $5...Cereal with milk would be a more expensive, depending on the brand and package size you get, but might offer more flexibility to expand it to fourteen days. I also like yogurt as a breakfast (and sometimes dessert!) item, and when I can find it on sale for 50 cents each (fairly common at my local Safeway), I buy a bunch of them. Another good breakfast alternative is cottage cheese with fruit...frozen berries work great for this, and are easy to keep for as long as you need. Assume $10 for breakfast.

Right, then you need lunch. So, some lunch meat, a loaf of bread, and a small bottle of mustard will just about cover you for the whole two-week period. Depending on how deluxe you go with these, you can spend anywhere from $5 to maybe $15. You should also consider shopping for microwavable cans of soup, or cup-of-noodles type instant lunches...even if it's just to give yourself some variety. Assume $15 for your lunches.

At this point, you've spent about $65, which leaves a ton left over for things like paper towels, shampoo, laundry detergent, etc. I highly suggest that you tag-team shop with a friend when possible...Costco will have really good prices on things that are just too big for one person to handle. For example, I buy my coffee there. For a single person, it would take a month to get through that huge bag, even though it only costs $10. If you can split it with a friend, you'll only have spent $5 each, and you'll still have enough to last a good two weeks. You'll need to invest in a box of ziploc bags, but it may be worth it.

If you like to cook meals I would buy the family packs and freeze them into what you will use for one day. I use a George Foreman Grill to cook the items quickly. Between myself and my two children we spend 80 to 120 for two weeks of dinners and breakfasts made at home, lunches on the weekends, including snacks that my kids take to school with them. If I am diligent I save anywhere from 50 cents to 20 dollars with coupons and on sale items.

I think you could manage it. Find a discount grocery store to get your food.. Always make a menu plan and get a grocery list before you chop. Don't buy your lunch or any meals out because that would eat up too much money. Make sure that you are balancing your food groups t get proper nutrition.

You need way more, thats only 50 a week, thats 7 days honey.
Thats less then 10 bucks a day. unless you plan on eating nothing and starving i would put some more money into your food allowance. Cuase 100 is nothing. I spend 300 every two weeks, plus stops by safeway every 2-3 nights and spend 30-50. (that is with my huge advantage of u.s. military members & depends, the commissary, i save alot there) but i still spend 300-400 every two weeks if not more.

I would hope so with coupons. I go to the store every 2 weeks for a family of 3 and pay anywhere from 115 to 150, depending on what we are cooking.

Depends what you like to eat... lets work this out...

A box of cereal (breakfast) lasts about a week. $5.00
A pound of meats and half pound of cheese and a loaf of bread (lunch) lasts about a week. This can be substituted with soups or maybe frozen pot pies. $15.00
A head of lettuce and vegetables along with some nice fresh fish or meat (dinner) will last about a week. $20.00
You even have enough left over for a little butter, a bit of milk, and even a 2 liter of soda not to mention just enough to buy some popcorn for watching TV at night.
