I'm not a homophobe at all, I'm the total opposite. But do you think one of the reasons that gay people don't have the same rights as everyone else, in the 21st century, is because people don't take you guys seriously? Like the parades and stuff? I think you should show everyone that your not taking this whole "You guys can't get married thing" lightly. You should show them how mad you are, your motto should be "We're here, we're queer, and we're pissed!" Black people have rights, women have rights, diverse religions have rights. I know that gay marriage isn't against the law becuase of YOU, it's because of the homophobes and bible thumpers in the world, I just think we could get this gay rights movement thing faster if you just showed everyone that gays aren't pansys, because I have a lot of gay friends, I've seen them get mad I know you guys aren't weak. Don't hold anything back, don't dance for your rights, fight for them.

I don't take it lightly, and I do "fight" for my rights. I vote, I email my politicians, I belong to HRC. you say you have a lot of gay friends, are none of them politically active? most of us do fight for our rights...and have been doing so for years. and little by little, we are making progress. and, what on earth is wrong with the parades? have you ever been to one? they are a lot of fun....and we get together and celebrate our unity, and get educated and network with other people and politicians and equal rights groups. why not tag along with your gay friends to a Pride fest sometime...you'll see it's not just about partying.

This is an active discussion within the gay community. I'll tell you up front though, I notice you're using "you" and "you guys". There's a LOT of people who wouldn't particularly appreciate someone straight looking in from the outside and trying to tell us how to run our movement. That said: google the Lesbian Avengers, and Queer Nation. (The former is still active; sadly the latter was short lived). There IS that spirit in the activism out there.

As for the parades: they serve, if nothing else, the historical purpose of marking the anniversary of the Christopher Street parade. That's why they started: to commemorate Stonewall. I will say that I think the spirit of the parades could use some re-focusing, but I will not soon give up on the idea of them.

There are people in all groups that live out the sterotypes others have placed on them. That doesn't mean the majority of homosexuals are that way. People tend to like to find reasons to dislike a group rather than look at what they have to offer society. I try to see both sides of every story. I don't understand why you can't marry your partner. I don't understand why you can't have the same rights as a heterosexual couple who got married only because the woman got pregnant. If you truely love each other, you should be allowed to marry. I don't see any harm in it. Of course at one point in time women and black people didn't have equal rights. Maybe in time, the bigots will see the light.

I'm with you! I'm not gay either, happily married in fact and I think that everyone should have the right to get married! People who believe that marriage is about creating children are deluding themselves! More and more often children are growing up having been born and raised out of wedlock, so what's the problem? So you can't physically create your own child you should be punished? Screw that! Get mad and get out there and show the world you're serious and you wont take no for an answer! Marriage is about commitment and love! The "family unit" has grown into something else, why not marriage?

We don't have the parades for rallying purposes, that is a celebration of all things homo... and why does no one seem to condemn anyone else who has a parade, like the Puerto Rican Day Parade, or EVERY single Macy's shindig? I, personally, fight tooth and nail to get people to understand that gays deserve equality, but the Bible Humpers and the "religious" fanatics of the world beat us down with their "sacred" book... who's wrong here, them or us?

Back when black people and women started asking for equal rights, people didn't take them seriously either. Even now, a lot of people don't.

The parades (especially the media coverage of the more sensational ie. controversial aspects) give 'excuses' for the people who want to deny us rights, but they'd find excuses without that kind of thing even if they had to make them up.

A black is black and can't control his color.
A woman is a woman and that is what she was born equipt as.
Homosexuals don't have to be with their kind and can even be what they were born equipt to be if they choose.
