I just got a car cover for my 1999 Corvette Convertible, and was wondering about using in when parked outside. I just read in popular mechanics that covers are bad in the rain, and when it is windy. has anyone ever had a car cover damage the paint when used? I want to protect the interior and the convertible top, but not at the expense of damaging the paint.

Never put a car cover on a dirty vehicle, wet vehicle, one that is stored outside without a physical cover, and in any type of wind storm. Covers can put micro-scratches on the surface and damage the clear coat. Getting the cover wet will cause mildew and mold formation on and in the paint surface. Your cars convertable top is designed to withstand the elements for years. The interior can be protected with interior shielding such as windshield covers and alike. Sometimes we get too caught up in protecting material items. If you are so worried about damage to the car, invest in a garage or a portable car port

I wish I had looked into this BEFORE I decided to use a Cover on my Jag parked outside. It's 15yrs.old but had a recent re-spray & the BRG Paint job while not flaw-less Was very nice. Now after just 3 Mo. in the damnable Fl. sun with the cover on the hoods clear-coat is alligator cracking. I'm taking off the Budge cover & hope the problem stays isolated to the hood. I didn't have a good experience using one.
