Hairstyling Station
by Cindy Littlefield
A fun organization idea from FamilyFun
Both functional and whimsical, this window-style mirror features a colorful plastic window box just right for storing brushes, mousse and any other accessories your child needs to style her hair. There are even hooks for hanging her necklaces and bracelets.
DIRECTIONS
1. First, attach the hooks to the upper corners of the mirror frame by drilling starter holes in the wood and then screwing the hooks in place.
Materials
• 2 decorative bent-wire hooks with screws to attach them to the mirror frame
• Window-style mirror (sold at many department stores)
• 1/2-inch screws
• Plastic shower caddy (the type with suction cups on back)
• Hot glue gun
• Assorted silk flowers
• Feather butterflies
• Silk dragonflies
2. Next, transform the shower caddy into a window box by removing the suction cups from the back. Then predrill a couple of screw holes in the lower portion of the mirror frame that will match up with two of the holes in the back of the caddy.
3. Turn the screws into the holes until the heads stick out of the wood a quarter of an inch. Then hang the caddy from the screw heads.
4. For a finishing touch, hot-glue the silk flowers, feather butterflies and silk dragonflies to the mirror frame.
5. Finally, hang the mirror on a wall at a height that suits your child and fill the window box with her supplies.
tip: If you can't find hooks you like, you can use needle-nose pliers to fashion your own out of pliable steel wire.

7 is a hard age.. I have girls 2 5 7 & 9 There all hard to buy for.. I suggest that you do something fun and diffrent... It most certinaly depends on how much you want to spend and if its your child or not.. But now 7 yr olds are becoming alot more advanced then we were at 7..I say maybe those lil digital cameras at wal mart for like $29 and then pick up a scrap book some pages safty sisscors glue glitter, stickers,at your local dollar store etc some frames .. and get her into photography, it will give her a hobbie, something constructive to do with her time and energy and a fun way to get togeather with all her friends and learn new things.. It will open her mind a lil instead of all these toys and sluty barbie dolls they have out.. She may even enjoy it so much that will stick with her , and shell always remeber where she got her first camera.. Alot of schools give scholorships for college too. Any way you go, have a merry christmas and i hope that your holiday gifts are very rewarding and not something at the bottom of someones closet in 4 days.:)

Anything Cheetah Girls seems to be the choice of all 7 and 8 year olds that I know. Try to think of something unique with the Cheetah Girl theme.

Go to a thrift store and buy old clothes and shoes, then get a full size mirror (don't have to be that big considering we are talking about a 7 yo). Maybe buy or build/setup a small vanity like situation to pretend to put makeup on. Then let her and her friends play dress up to their hearts desire.

DON'T buy Bratz, My Scene, Cheetah dolls etc. They are what is wrong with girls today. They are dolls that are covered in a ton of make up, have trashy clothes on, and the name alone...Bratz?! Is that the message you want young girls to get? Get her something that is interactive, that stimulates creativity or problem solving or SOMETHING. How about a big box with lots of art supplies, puzzles, or one of the Smithsonian science experiment kits?

How about adopting an animal. Not physically but the type where you send a donation and in return the sanctury or whatever sends regular letters etc. There are many such places about, ranging from donkeys to dolphins

Either buy or build a oblong toy box.
Fill the box with different hats..example..fireman,doctor,queen, police, tiara...then make some dress up clothes...If you can't sew, have a friend do it or purchase them.
Put in other props too.
Kids love to dress up and put on plays to entertain themselves their friends and their parents.
Stencil the toy box with a phrase...something like.....
Fun in a box. She will have something that NONE of her friends will have!
