why managers operate as if they never work on the floor before?

Just remember they get pressure from their bosses above them, and that pressure trickles down to production. They have no right to be jerks, but they are dealing with the company's mid level management, who sets the standards and then expects the managers to enforce it.

If you have ever tried to push warm noodles up a straw, you have some idea of what it can be like as a manager. They have to stick to their guns because everyone is always bucking them. That does not give them a license to be a jerk, but try walking in the managers shoes just once.

one is it may have been awhile ago, and they tend to forget, two the workload is more stressful so they are no longer as much fun to work with, a manager should never treat the employees as friends, due to work ethics, but i think they should get there hands dirty once in awhile and work with the crew just to be reminded of what is actually like.
