I almost rented a dopler but by the time I found the one I wanted...I could feel my baby kick which was all I needed to rest easy that he was okay in there.

Hiya. I have recently gone one step further and bought one off eBay. It comes with headphone and it is nice to be able to hear my baby whenever i want to. I am 18 weeks now and by the doppler i can determine how the baby is lying in my belly. You can hear the baby's movements and although i haven't heard these yet, it says you will be able to hear the baby's hiccups too :)

My last pregnancy, i had a big baby (for me) I am only 5"1. She was 8lb 6 1/2oz and toward the end, she was running out of room to move so i was in and out of the hospital for tem to check her heart every few days.

This time, it is great to know i can stay in the comfort of my own home and be able to start bonding with my little one at this early point.

Hope this has helped X :)

A doppler uses ultrasound... why would you want to use that any more than necessary? Yes, it is less intense than the kind of ultrasound that gives you a picture, however the picture one pulses- the doppler sends out continuous ultrasound waves. Ulrasound has risks. Researchers don't know what kind of damage overuse could cause.

Just be patient... soon your baby will start to move and you won't worry about it.

I have read that ultrasound is as loud as a freight train to the fetus, and yet is the same note as THE HIGHEST NOTE on a piano. Not only is the sound extremely uncomfortable for them, but it can also be bad for them. I wouldn't use this type of medical equipment at home because you may be distressing your baby.

I actually bought 1 from target-it is called BEBE Heart Sounds I think.Anyways-it is total crap.I bought it during my 1st pregnancy and couldn't hear any heart beat except my own.Now I am pregnant again-25 weeks-and I again can not hear anything related to baby-total waste of money.Maybe a rented one would be better quality.

I just had my monthly fetal checkup. And yet again, my little one hates!!!! the heart monitor or the ultrasound. The doc and the nurses say she must have sensitive ears, because she moves away from the sound waves as if it disturbs her. During my last ultrasound she would swat or kick where ever the doc would move the wand.

Dopplers are medical equiptment that use ultrasound and are not safe if used improperly or too often.

Just buy a fetoscope with a long tube. You can get them on eBay. Much cheaper and much safer.
