Humans are one type of animal, hence the scientific name homo sapien. Animals do some pretty unspeakable things to each other too. From mantises who eat their hubbies, to warluses and deer who maim each other in fights over breeding, to scavenger animals that steal food from each other, the animals are as ruthless as people (if not just less intelligent).
The one thing we have going for us is our brain. Our intelligence allows us to concieve of "morality" and we can choose to do right. On the other hand, our intelligence also allows those of us with destructive and abhorrent behavior, to act out in a way that can cause great harm to many.

Morality is a concept which does not apply to animals, their behaviour is most often instinctual and without conscious intent. A cow does not have to explain why she went with the other bull, the dog does not know why the kids are upset about her killing the rabbit.
It is our ability to think and choose a course of action which leads us to make judgements of right and wrong.
If I cheated on my husband or the children killed the rabbit for fun that is something totally different.
When I sit amongst our cow herd when they are ruminating together there is a very calming sense of acceptance and I am constantly learning more about what nice beings they are, but I am sure they do not waste time thinking about how I feel. If they needed to knock me out of the way for any reason, they would not mind to do it but then they would not do it with cruel intent.

Oh, I think we have evolved to having almost no moral standard at all. Frankly, I would trust your average wild animal over a human being any day.

Well, it's been documented that apes will kill their own and eat them (Cannibalism). Take from another rival to protect it's own (greed).
So yes, we're right in there with the rest of the beasts of the jungle.
