New legal documents, to be filed next week with Germany's top prosecutor, will seek a criminal investigation and prosecution of Rumsfeld, along with Attorney General Alberto Gonzales, former CIA director George Tenet and other senior U.S. civilian and military officers, for their alleged roles in abuses committed at Iraq's Abu Ghraib prison and at the U.S. detention facility at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.

I think its a long time coming, but I am curious of the timing ony because what stopped them from charging him 6 months ago? Were they waiting for the election to be over with?

It really does not matter what Germany does but here in USA none of these people are being tried for anything! Nancy Palosi had talked about investigations and impeachment prior to the Demc. winning but now she has decided that she will not do that!
I think that Rumsfeld was discarded to prevent a investigation.

I am shocked that the Europeans are going to do something stupid like that. It is so unlike them, no wait it is just like them. How would a weak country like Germany enforce such prosecution? It is just a bunch of stooges playing politics and wasting German citizens money on an unenforceable political stunt.

It sounds to me like this German prosecutor is grandstanding...he'll probably be running for higher office some day.

Nobody is above the Law. If this is true that they are being tried...so be it. I don't profess to know any classified information, and if the trial is fair and correctly conducted, they will be sentenced according to U.S. law.

Saddam, incidentally, had been sentenced to death by his own law! How's that for ironic?
