My son had a set of booties and wrist band that had rattles in them. Every time he kicked or moved his arms, they would make noise. He figured out how to make them rattle, and he really was enthralled that HE could make THAT noise! Very simple game, and very cute!

It's really hard at that age because they find it hard to grasp things. Although I am all for learning at young ages, just playing is learning. I have a 9 month old girl and I found the same thing. Try getting a cloth book, with different textures shapes and colours. The more simple the pictures are the better to entertain him. As he goes through the book explain (that sheep is soft, or that ball is round) Once your son reaches 6-12 months he'll be more able to play alone and more educational toys can be introduced.

Any of the Baby Einstein products are wonderful. My little one really enjoys the baby gym with hanging things to hit and kick. Board books are great for language development. I've noticed my infant loves to be in bed with his big brother at story time each night. Remember...they are little sponges and anything you expose them to is educational. Recently, I saw a commercial for some sort of TV activity where the baby recognizes objects and pushes buttons on a remote thingy. I'm weary of this but it may be something to research.

At 3 months old, everything is educational. Don't get things that light up, play music, talk, etc. Toys for a 3 month old should be simple, just like they are.

At that age, they obviously can't play w/things yet. I would advise, if you don't already have one, a colorful mobile that plays music. Suspend it high enough over the crib so the baby cannot get ahold of it.

Babies love bright colors and music.

There are Activity Mats (Baby Einstein puts one out) that has overhanging arches with hanging lights, mirrors, characters, etc. My little girl loved laying down on it and listening to the music. All she could really do was kick one of the arches to make the stuff shake, but she loved it.

Leap Frog (I think) has a new thing out that is an interactive video toy. It has a unit with big buttons with colors and sounds and it hooks up to your TV.

Mobiles also work wonders.

my daughter loved anything that played music and lights. These kind stimulate both their hearing and sight. There are so many good toys these days, don't stress over the perfect one.
