Hi,
A friend of mine, who is a UK resident but temporarily works in Nigeria, is travelling back to UK for few days. He has been told by the travel operator that he needs to show USD1500 as running expenditure at exit control before he can leave for UK. The travel operator says this is a goverment law and applies to everyone. Is this correct? Why would a UK national have to show any money to come back to their home?
Thanks and regards

Your friend is a United Kingdom national (citizen). He does not need a UK VISA to leave Nigeria. Your friend should contact the British Embassy in Nigeria for clarifications. Your friend should also demand to be shown the government law by the travel operator. He should be careful not to part with his hard earned money. He should also contact (talk) to the airline sales/reservations staff directly.
