I personally boil water, fill the cup 3/4 up add a jigger or whiskey, 1/4 slice of lemon or lime and 2 tsp. of honey. I sip this and it seems to help with the cough and open my sinuses. After 4 or 5 you're really feeling better one way or the other. Try it!

Here is a recipe for a cough mixture that I got from a chef in a Chinese takeaway who swears it works. I have tried it myself and have found it very good for claming the coughing when it's a dry, irritated cough. Take a can of Coke; real coke, not the diet stuff, and boil it up in a saucepan. Into the boiling liquid chop some fresh ginger and the washed roots of a small bunch of scallions or spring onions. Simmer it for about 10 minutes and let it cool a little, then sip very slowly until you finish the glass. Oh by the way, you can take out the ginger and spring onion before drinking!

A friend of mine once told me, "the best thing to do for a cold is: go to the store, buy about 6 lemons, some honey, and a pint of whiskey. When you get home, throw the honey and the lemons in the trash".
