No never, I'm always willing to say I don't know so please educate me....I like learning new things. As for your dilemma, at least as a man they are less likely to try to take advantage of you. Were as if you are a woman and do know a good deal about cars they try to dick you. Even after you state the obvious and they know you know better, they will sometimes still continue to try to make it sound as if you need more than you really need.
And the worst places that do it are these large chain stores...like Pep boys, etc. And trust me, I've worked there, I know they do it.

Being female, when I have my car serviced, they assume I don't have clue about mechanics.

Thats a good thing, just act like you know what he is talking about. Girls get the opposite. They think we dont know jack so they feed us a bunch of crap and try to charge for things we dont need.

Take a woman with you next time and have her ask a lot of stupid questions and act like you aren't paying attention to any of the answers.

Sometime around 50 you'll start asking. Knowledge outweighs embarrassment.
