In Toronto, the two most popular teacher's colleges are OISE (Ontario Institute for Studies in Education) which is a part of the University of Toronto. Another is York University. Both have high standards and require practical teaching experience to get in.
OISE's application process consists of an essay profile where you are required to answer specific questions about the teaching field and provide details and insight into your pesonal teaching experience. OISE requires at least three teaching experiences. These teaching experiences can be almost anything, what's important is that you exemplify how these teaching experiences helped you gain broader insight into the field as a whole and what you learned from them that would make you a good teacher. OISE is known for putting emphasis on the importance of diversity in the classroom, but it's up to you to decide and explain why diversity is important to you as a teacher. If you are applying to teach at the Secondary level you are required to have two "teachable" subjects as your majors/minors during undergrad. Overall, OISE places more emphasis on your ability to express the usefulness of your teaching experience rather than your grades. However, you must have at least a B+ average though I would encourage you to apply if you have a slightly lower average but plenty of teaching experience.
York University's application process is more complicated but that does not imply that it is a better university. They have a very long application (around 10 pages, I believe) that asks you to fill in EVERY teaching experience you've ever had. This has its pros and cons. It allows you to use each and every experience you've had and does not limit you to a certain number of experiences like OISE does. However, if you haven't had a lot of teaching experience in the past, this can be a bad thing and your application can end up looking a little flimsy. Once received, all applications are 'short listed'--York picks a certain number of applicants to come in for interviews. If you are not called in for an interview you pretty much know that you haven't been accepted. I don't know details about how the interview process works, but it's where your 'fate' so to speak is decided.
Also, keep in mind that though OISE and York are the main downtown campuses there are other universities that offer teaching programs around Toronto. Next year, the University of Toronto at Mississauga will offering a unique teaching program. You might find info here: www.utm.utoronto.ca. Browse the sites of other universities like Lakehead, Brock, Trent to familiarize yourself with their programs. Visit UofT and York's sites for further clarification. The deadline for applications is usually December 1st, but you will find more info at the OUAC site, which is where you would apply through. Google it!
Hopefully this helps you out!
Take Care!

Only York and University of Toronto are actually in the Toronto area. Brock is in the Niagara region (St Catharines I think), which is about two hours away from Toronto, and Queen's is in Kingston, which is about four hours away from Toronto. I go to University of Toronto - it's a gorgeous campus, right in the city, and widely regarded as one of the best universities not only in Canada, but in the world. (Can you tell I have U of T pride? LOL.) St George campus is the perfect location - right by the subway and streetcar lines, and is near great shopping, restaurants, and cafes. York is more on the outskirts of Toronto, and there isn't very much around the campus.

OISE is the teaching related branch at u of t. Don't know admission requirements well. My cousin went there and got work teaching in a reasonable time after. As the above poster suggested, they did seem to do a pretty good job of brainwashing her into being convinced that teachers were the most wonderful yet underappreciated group in the world. I don't recall them teaching her a whole lot about how to teach, but I think that's normal.

If you want to be a teacher now days...China would be a good place to start for your training in left wing brain washing techniques. After that
any university where they have some B.S. class in women's studies will give you a starting point in the advancement of ignorance in western society. Check Moveon.org for more trash to implant in a young persons mind.
