The following link will give you all the info you'll ever need to know about the bike:

www.ex500riders.com

I have a 1996 which is virtually identical to the 2000. It's pretty much considered a beginners sport bike. It's out performed by the 600 & 1000cc bikes in almost every catagory.

I really like mine for a couple of reasons.

1. It still outperforms almost all but the most expensive sports cars.
2. Great gas mileage. About 45-50mpg and it takes regular gas instead of supreme.
3. The stance is more upright than other sport bikes. Commuting on a true sport bike is uncomfortable. The ergonomics are such that it forces you into a riding position that is ideal for peak performance. The only problem is that position is uncomfortable--especially for any length of time.

Kawasaki EX 500 / Ninja 500 R (1996+)

# redline: 11,000 rpm
# power: 52 bhp (39 kW) @ 9500 rpm (103 hp/L)
# torque: 30.86 lbf·ft (41.84 N·m) @ 8000 rpm

# acceleration (1993 model), 0-60 mph: 3.76 s

# standing start 1/4 mile (1994 model): 12.98 s @ 99.0 mph
# top speed (1994 model): 118 mph

The years of these stats vary some, but the bike has not changed much at all from its introduction in 1987.
