Tennessee Williams once said,"I have always been interested in creating a character that contains something crippled. I think nearly all of us have some kind of defect, anyway, and i suppose i have found it easier to identify with the characters who verge on hysteria, who were frightened of life, who were desperate to reach another person."To what extent do the characters in The Glass Menagerie adherre to this characterization?

They were all crippled to some extent. The sister had a bad leg, the mother was crippled by her memory of the husband and kept his picture on the wall even though he left. The brother was crippled by his fear of leaving. Even the gentleman caller was crippled, basing his self worth on his job and he was a bit conceited.
