first of all, its best if you take into consideration what owner would like the logo to portray and the type of restaurant you're drawing it for. the logo is a representation of the restaurant itself so it can either speak a lot or not speak at all. when drawing the logo, keep it simple and clean cut, nothing to complicated or too detailed. the logo preferably is something that everyone can remember and easily associate with the restaurant itself. for example, when someone mentions mcdonalds i immediately think of ronald mcdonald or the yellow m. it's also best if you make tons of sketches and have people say their opinion about it not just the owner. the logo isn't only for the restaurant but its also for the consumers as well. after all, its the consumers who'll probably see the logo the most.

when you already have your drawing, make a clean up or a cleaner version of it to be scanned to the computer. you can use various graphic softwares like corel to clean it up further and color it though i prefer photoshop when doing that job. make sure to stick to a color palette suitable for the restaurant. coffeshops usually stick to earth tones, chinese restaurants red and yellow, japanese, it'd depend if its a causal or fine dining restaurant.

good luck!
