It's a divisive issue meant to distract from bigger things, such as war, the economy, education, you name it.

Honestly, If I were an Athiest, truly, I believe I would object to saying "One Nation Under God" in my pledge to the flag. However Athiests do have a right to not say the pledge. There are still more American's who believe in God in our country than those who do not. Most of us appreciate the concept that our country is united under God.

I make a big deal of it for the same reason I would LIKE to see people stand for the National Anthem, for the same reason I'm alittle peeved that we're cheapening Veteran's Day by having an "observed" holiday on Friday so people can make it a 3 day weekend and stores can have sales.
I served for 15 yrs, I've witnessed the deaths of 83 of my friends and shipmates in PEACE time incidents (raise my beer)... including 50 in one mid-air collision, and one young man dying in my arms in Japan on April 13th 1990.
The phrase "one Nation under God" was inserted in 1954... during the midst of the "RED" scare... and I don't mind the Pledge without it.
Personally... it's the FLAG that is my Symbol.
BTW... Happy 231st Birthday to my Marine Brothers... no Jarhead jokes today... honest !!

the USA existed as a country for over 100 years without a pledge of allegiance and the "under god" was added in 1954, I hardly think it's necessary
lol at the people whining about socialists, the author of the pledge of allegiance was a socialist

I believe in the United States of America and God, we have to ask our selves this question. The United States of America has embraced all forms of religious freedom for over 200 years. God spoken of 200 years ago has changed from English Christianity to thousands of other religions. Who are we speaking of in today's terminology of "under God"? Blast off.

The reason for this is because the liberals are godless and push there socialist agendas off on the week minded they are trying to eliminate god entirely from the u.s. soil (there is no room for god in the new world socialist order)!
