One being the third rated pitcher in all the minor leagues.... I guess the Yankees werent stupid for holding on to him by picking up his option. I guess we'll see.

Oh, by the way, i think the Yankees did a good thing. i mean, Sheff is a bat, a big bat, but he is starting to break down and then throw in that he's a misenthrop a bigmouth, and an ******. The Yankees got the Third best pitching prospect in ALL the Minor leagues from the tigers plus 2 other hard throwers ...all under 23 years old.... I dont think the Yankees did a bad thing because they didnt want sheffield back, the only reason they picked up his option , which pissed him off, was so they could trade him and try and get sumthing good in return instead of letting him walk to freeagency for nothing...and they got sumthing good like they wanted.

Bad for The Tigers. I dont know what Dombrowski was thinking.

That sanchez dude was big prospect in our system, and he'll come back to haunt The Tigers in the future.

I'm just hoping that Sheffield can keep his head in the game.
His bat might us help us.

Sheffield is a head-case, he already basically said he was going to make life miserable for whatever team he wound up playing for, but the Tigers just gave him an extension through '09.

He's had issues w/ Dombrowski (the GM)...but he loves Jim Leyland.

If you don't count this year, he's hit at least 30 HR and 120 RBI each of the last three seasons, and if I remember right, he's "only" 38 years old. He's still got some of the best hitting wrists in the game. Besides, the Tigers really could've used that bat and his playoff experience in the World Series this year. It was their YOUTH that killed them.

If he keeps his ego in check, I think he'll be just fine.

Good for the Yankees, bad for the Tigers. Sheffield is not young anymore and as someone has already said, it's only a matter of time before he finds himself back on the DL. With the hardest swing in baseball a healthy Sheffield is a great power hitter. He'll hang around long enough to get his 500th career home run and then call it a career.

He will only help the Tigers as far as offense....as far as the clubhouse - the guy is really a clubhouse cancer. Hopefully Leyland will keep that in check. As far as the trade for Sheffield, the Tigers got ripped off by the Yankees. They gave up some young talent for a way out of his prime slugger who missed most of last year due to injury and then signed him to an extension for a lot of cash.

Good move by the Yankees. The Yankees could use some younger pitchers. I think Sheff will be a huge bust and hit maybe 3 or 4 hr's before he's injured again.

Great for the Yankees!!! Very bad for the Tigers!!!
Sheffield is way over the hill, I think he is only gonna get about 10 home runs next, then Tigers will let him go!!!

Doesn't seem like the right fit for my Tigers. They have a young strong team while a couple experienced guys would be good, Sheffield seems like the wrong guy.

bad the yankees traded a guy thats still capable of hitting .290-.300 30+HR 90+RBI for about another two years. The yankees got three little kids that are probably nothing compared to Jared Weaver and Francisco Liriano.

All I can say at this point is WE SHALL SEE!

I have yet to see any of their minor league pitchers they acquired, so I will not speculate whether or not they are worth the trade for Sheffield or not.
