Ugh, couldn't you have picked Paris or someplace else in Europe instead? London is so dismal and depressing. I moved there for school and moved out after three days because I disliked it so incredibly much. The only advice I can give to you, if you really want to go there, is to stay someplace nice. This will mean shelling out a lot more money (just one of the lovely perks of London since everything is so darn expensive.) When I say "nice," don't expect to stay anyplace for under $200 a night. If you find a place like that, it will completely and totally suck (for lack of a better word.) One of the nicest places to stay is off of Hyde Park...other than that, I can't give any more of a suggestion.

Try www.athomeinlondon.co.uk

These are bed and breakfast style rooms all over the city. You'll pay the same for one week in one of these that you probably would pay for just one or two nights in a central hotel. Plus, the rooms are nicer, bigger, and more comfortable.

My parents used this service when they visited me in London a few years ago, and I would recommend it to anyone wanting to visit London.
