I never could find an answer to that question either, so I took matters into my own hands and became my own boss. I started out doing it part time, building it while working for a wage. When I started earning money right away, my whole attitude changed at work because I saw a light at the end of the tunnel. I now do it full time and when my boss gets unreasonable, I look in the mirror and tell her to smarten up!

Are they unethical, breaking company policy, harassing? There are steps for that. Go to HR.
Are they obnoxious, not like minded, thinks more about the bottom line, doesn't care about you? Such is life. People don't always get along. If his/her 'unreasonableness' is telling you that you can't take time off during a busy time of the year, he/she has every right to think of the company first and you second.

Put yourself in his/her shoes and see if the boss is really being unreasonable, or if that is just your perception because you have an inflated opinion of your worth on the job.

I worked for a jerk in Az at the Nissan Test Track.We had a fire truck and rescue equipment we weren't to use.He guaranteed a fatality on the track within two years .I asked what we were supposed to do if we had a driver trapped in a vehicle.He said we were to wait for the fire department.So I requested long sticks and marshmellows so I could have something to do while waiting and watching someone burn to death.Lost my job but it was worth the look on his face.
