I actually did this this past weekend! I wrote in big black marker "This is garbage, please take it away!".

They did.

If you have a local dump, you can take it there. Also, if it is galvanized, I would not throw it away. There are uses for it such as keeping your birdseed safe for critters and damp weather.

If you really don't want it, just set it beside your NEW garbage can, after you have wrapped it up and written "garbage, please remove." Otherwise, hunt for a large dumster and place it there.

Put it in a bigger garbage can.

No really, if the garbage man won't take it, you may just lug it out to the dump and toss it yourself.

Tape a note to it telling the garbage-man to take it.

Just tape a big note "TAKE THIS CAN TOO" to the can you wish to get rid of, and the trash man will know what to do. If there is any problem, write a note instructing the trash man to take it and fasten it to the big note.

Good luck with your can disposal problem.

take a sledge hammer, crumple the trash can, put it in another trash can that you want to keep and voila!

or you can just put a note on it.

kinda hard, unless you just bought a new one, and then they will assume you are throwing the new one away
