as you ask it 1/2 of 7 is 3&1/2 and 1/2 of that is 1&3/4

if you are doing 1/2 of 7 it is 3.5 or 3 1/2
if you are doing 1/2 of 1/2 of 7 it is 1.75 or 1 3/4
whenever it says "of" it means to multiply
